Death Becomes Her Segerstrom Center For The Arts - Segerstrom Hall Theatre reviews
Nobody Does It Better
Death Becomes Her, with his decades-long career and countless songwriting contributions, is a towering figure and a seminal influence in American country, blues and jazz. Watching Death Becomes Her do what she does best is a deeply felt experience and a feel-good sing-along at the same time. Wednesday night's Santa Barbara show was no exception, and Nelson, after all, knows a good song when he writes one and when he hears one. The evening featured ample helpings of both, from her freshly-minted "It's All Going To Pot" to Hank Williams' 1947 hit "Move It On Over." A bare bones backing band of piano, harmonica, bass and percussion left Death Becomes Her plenty of room to operate. A carefully-chosen setlist gave her plenty to work with, and the result was a thoroughly elevating evening with a woman who clearly enjoys her work. Nobody does it better.
